Description
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin yoga is a calm and meditative yoga style in which the postures are held for longer than in other yoga styles. We stay in a posture for 3 to a maximum of 5 minutes and use gravity to gradually let go.
During the practice, the focus is on the breath and the physical sensations that arise. By focusing our attention on the breath, we anchor ourselves in the present moment.
The body is gently stretched through the longer periods of time, with the intensive stretches working down to the deeper connective tissue and fascia.
Yin yoga harmonizes the flow of energy, reduces stress and can thus stimulate regeneration and self-healing processes. We reach a deep level of calm and relaxation and at the same time become more attentive and relaxed.
Through the stillness of the body and the calm flow of the breath, we achieve peace of mind. In this way, we emerge from the compulsiveness of thinking and experience a relaxed, serene state of mind.
Who is Yin Yoga suitable for?
Yin yoga appeals to everyone - male and female, sportsmen and sportswomen, flexible and inflexible, old and young ... It is ideal for beginners, as most of the exercises are performed sitting or lying down. You don't need to be fit.
Yin Yoga can be adapted to almost all movement possibilities of the practitioner through variations of all postures and aids. Anyone who wants to do more for their physical and mental health is welcome to try Yin Yoga.
Instructor:
Christian Kopfer, born 1963, sports teacher and student of Zen master Zensho W. Kopp and Zen teacher authorized by him. He runs the Zen Centre Mainz together with his wife Dr. Natalia Kopfer, who is also a student of Zen Master Zensho and a Zen teacher authorized by him.
Clothing and aids:
As the exercises in Yin Yoga are performed very calmly, it is best to wear a long-sleeved shirt and long, comfortable pants in which you won't cool down so quickly. A sweater or jacket to put on and possibly a blanket for the final relaxation are also recommended.
In Yin Yoga, we like to use aids that support the process of releasing muscle tension: the firm blocks on which you can support yourself wonderfully, the large bolster to lay on and off and possibly a small pillow for your head. We have mats, blocks and bolsters ready for you at our center.
We occasionally combine our yin yoga practice with some fascia training using the small fascia ball and the fascia roller. These tools are also available at the center.
