Description
Beginners are very welcome at Ashtanga Yoga Freiburg. If you have no experience with Mysore self-practice, we recommend that you watch the classes first. This allows you to get to know the teachers, understand the process and ask questions before you decide. Starting with the Mysore practice is ideal: you practise in a group but receive individual guidance at your own pace. Previous knowledge of the entire Ashtanga sequence is not necessary - the asanas are taught step by step and built up gradually.
Mysore classes are open to all levels. In the first lessons you will learn sun salutations, breathing techniques and the basics of the bandhas. The first session lasts about 30 minutes, later classes are gradually extended. We traditionally work with physical adjustments - these are voluntary and can be declined at any time. For good learning progress, we recommend at least three fixed dates per week. Your first class does not start before 07:15 in the morning - the shala is already open and we have enough time for a good introduction.
The Ashtanga yoga practice
Ashtanga yoga is more than just physical exercise - it is a holistic path to health, stability and inner clarity. The fixed sequence of asanas, conscious breathing (vinyasa), focus points (drishti) and energy locks (bandhas) create an intensive, cleansing practice for body and mind. The name Ashtanga refers to the eight limbs of yoga according to Patanjali, from ethical foundations to meditation. The practice is structured in series (Primary, Intermediate and Advanced), which are learned one after the other. Each posture prepares you for the next.
